October

It’s October.  I realized yesterday that it was the last day of September, but for some strange reason that didn’t translate into today being October.

October is a pronouncement that autumn is truly here.  October is pumpkins and clearing out the garden and leaves on the ground.  I used to think of autumn almost like dying, but now I think of it as the beginning of the cleanup to prepare for things that are new.    I used to feel that spring was the beginning, but it’s like building a house.  Autumn is clearing the land and laying the foundation while spring is putting up the framing.  You can’t have spring without autumn.

Since it’s October, I’m going to enjoy it.
