Decisions, those forks in the road that determine the future are always interesting. Some decisions are individual, while others are a group process. Whole books have been written about how to make good decisions, but what I find interesting is how people behave after they reach a decision. There are basically three choices.
Once a decision is made, you are committed to making it work.
You wonder what would have happened if you had made a different choice.
(Usually after a group decision) You can be unhappy with the outcome and spend the next four years listening to talk radio.
Or, Steve–using YOU as example–we keep in mind and understand our decisions are merely the vision of the road of where we want to go, and mostly the confidence that paves our way to get there.
Think back, Steve, how many times have I seen you as health administrator and as writer –and even as husband and father–in decision mode? How many times did recruiters come after you wanting to take you away from one position after another–only to keep you in decision mode? Heck, it’s
always been when you were in decision mode when you were happiest!
Decision is like a road in the country: There was never a road, but when we and those affected by our decisions walk on it, the road comes into existence.
Rick,
And always, God had a better plan for me than I did. When I eventually put myself in His hands I did much better.
Blessings, as always,
Esteban
